Prince Caspian

Dixie O’Day in the Fast Lane by Shirley Hughes and Clara Vulliamy

Prince Caspian: 'It's quite a funny book and is easy to read, with lots of really good pictures in red, white and black on every page'.

I really enjoyed this book. It's written by a mother and daughter, which I liked (especially as I really enjoyed the Alfie books she had written). I also loved all the pictures, maps and funny cartoons in it. The book is about an adventurous dog called Dixie and his friend Percy, and how they take part in a car race against their worst enemy, Lou Ella. She is a very posh lady and every year she buys a new car, usually pink and very fast. She is the opposite to Dixie, who loves his old red car and looks after it really well. He washes it all the time and likes to take his friend Percy out for rides, (although they do break down sometimes!)

When Dixie and Percy hear about a car race from Didsworth to Dodworth, they decide to take part, and find themselves racing against their enemy Lou Ella. They have lots of adventures along the way, like getting stuck on a railway track by accident. As they get near the finish line, they see Lou Ella's car just in front of them but luckily she gets stuck in the tramlines, so they overtake her to win the race and are given a golden cup. It's quite a funny book and is easy to read, with lots of really good pictures in red, white and black on every page. At the end of the book there is a section with good car games to play, a quiz, some drawing ideas and a photo album. I liked this book and think anyone who likes adventures and competitions will enjoy it too.
