This book is about Compton Valance who finds a cheese and pickled egg sandwich in his lunch bag that had been there for three weeks. He and his friend Brian are curious to find out what would happen if they left the sandwich even longer.

After another ten weeks they both take a little crumb off the end of the sandwich and eat it to see what would happen. Amazingly Brian and Compton travel back in time. There is only one explanation for this – the sandwich had turned into a time machine.

The crumb had only taken Compton and Brian back a few hours so they had a bigger bite. This took them back a few days and then they had a truly huge bite and went back millions of years to discover the dinosaurs!

After using the time machine Brian and Compton aren't friends any more because they only became friends when they met at school. This book is about the many adventures they have such as meeting a secret agent and being tied to a stake by some villagers who want to set them on fire.

This is one of the best books I've ever read. It is super-duper funny and reminds me a bit of Mr Gum.
