I thought that from the cover, Mariella Mystery looked girly and much too young for me, but reading it I found that it was not as bad as it first seemed. I still think it is too young for me but only by about a year or two. I would recommend this book to 8 and under.

In the story Mariella and her friends from the club, the mystery girls, help v
Violet Maple win Bake or Break., a cooking competition for kids. In every round something seems to go wrong, including Violet's cookbook going missing, hair getting in people's cakes and pies being pushed over. So the mystery girls try to investigate what is happening and who is the culprit of the sabotage? Spencer Spokes (a judge) is passionate about cooking cakes and other foods from vegetables, particularly parsnips. This is a shortish book and a good reader who likes the story could be read in about 2-3 days, for a person who is not enjoying the book and a slow reader perhaps 5-6 days.
