'In The Sea There Are Crocodiles' is the story of a boy who grows up throughout the book.
It begins when he is ten years old, and starts on the borders of Pakistan.
When being put to bed, Enaiatollah's mother tells him three things:
1. Don't use drugs
2. Don't use weapons, and
3. Don't steal.
When he wakes up, he finds that his mother is gone and he has no-one else to turn to.
I personally found it very hard to get into this book, and after 36 pages, nothing has made me really think "WOW".
The whole idea of the book is so remarkable, and I am sure that anyone would definitely enjoy reading it, but I think you'd have to be in the right mind-set and mood to really take it all in and appreciate it.
In all honesty I would probably find it more grasping if I just took the time to delve a little further into it and really process what's going on.
Sometimes it was a little confusing as it seemed to skip, but perhaps that was due to the way in which I was reading it – I would read a few pages, then forget about it for several days and then read a few pages again; by that time, I had probably forgotten the previous pages I had read.
I definitely believe that this book is a little gem at heart. I will just have to come back to it in the future and really concentrate on the story.
Maybe I will come back to it in the future and write a '"revised" review of it once I have read the whole thing!
