The Story of Don Juan by Alessandro Baricco – review

Soup10: 'This book has very Gothic violence and describes very detailed death'

We received this book from our Italian lodger Francesca. It is an Italian classic. This book made me not want to put it down. However it was very vile and may be hard to understand for little children. It is about a man named Don Juan and he kills the Comendator and kisses the Comendator's daughter in the middle of the night. She, however, does not react kindly to this but attacks him and throws him down the stairs. She is angry because she thinks that it is her long lost boyfriend coming to visit, but she finds it is in fact the man who killed her dad.

Then they find out that this man is Don Juan and assassins hunt him down. He is invited to dinner at a statue's house and the statue kills him with his finger. This part describes the floors breaking underneath him to reveal Hell. At one point he describes all his wives. This book has very Gothic violence and describes very detailed death.
