The characters in this book are: Sophie - the main character, Matteo - Sophie's friend, Charles Maxim - the dad, Miss Elliot - the child care officer, and The garriers - the train station boys.
People tell Sophie she was orphaned on a shipwreck, but Sophie believes that her mother survived it too.
I liked the book a lot because it has adventures in it. My favourite part is when Miss Elliot says "The buttons are on the wrong side". She says it because she thinks that Charles isn't a good dad and he doesn't know what side girls buttons go on.
In this book you learn about the characters and what they are like.
I recommend this book for 8 years and over because they will understand.
I give this book 5/5 stars.
