Lisa and Partick's parents are too preoccupied to take much notice of them and when Lisa becomes convinced that her brother's soul has been stolen by the spindlers.
She wishes that their old baby sitter who has gone to college could be there to help her find the real Patrick. The Patrick that has been left is subdued and is no fun to be with. Lisa knows that, in spite of her fear, she will have to search for him on her own.
Spindlers are like huge spiders with human hands at the end of their legs. They have enormous crescent shaped eyes that can see perfectly well in the dark. They have huge mouths with one hundred jagged teeth and they can swell up to be the size of a house.
Lisa knows that she must start her search for Patrick's soul in the basement. In spite of her fear she set off through the hole behind the book case in the basement armed only with a broom. In no time at all she is falling into the unimaginable world of the Spindlers. She meets all sorts of creatures and is befriended by a rat but surely she is not strong enough to face the evil queen of the Spindlers. Lisa has to face a series of tests to rescue Patrick's soul and save her own.
This book reminds you of Alice in Wonderland but the adventures are even more extraordinary and frightening. There are lovely descriptions of all the different creatures that Lisa meets and I am sure you will love her as much as I did because of her determination and courage.
