A character in the book says "Great books give you a feeling that you miss all day, until you finally get to crawl back inside those pages again" and that is certainly how I felt while I was reading the help!

Minny and Aibleen are to coloured maids living in Jackson, Mississippi in 1962. Together they both have their own special tales to tell. Skeeter is not like the other women Aibleen and Minny are used to; Skeeter doesn't believe that the help should have their own bathroom outside, or that they should be treated differently to any other women.

After applying to many jobs as a journalist and being refused Skeeter gets a job writing a weekly cleaning column for the Jackson Journal and enlists the help of Aibleen. Soon she applies for another job with the publishing company Harper and Row, yet again she is turned down but, this time, she is given a little advice. 'Write about what bothers you, particularly if it bothers no-one else' and that is exactly what she does. She writes about the Help. Creating a book like this about the help will be a very dangerous task, especially for those maids who are willing be interviewed. After finally convincing Aibleen and Minny to take part in this extraordinary journey Skeeter finds out that she needs a dozen maids to take part and that she needs to have it ready by January! With the deadline getting closer by the minute and only having two of the twelve maids Skeeter needs taking part will she be able to meet the deadline, will it even be published? But the thing that scares them the most is the possibility of being discovered and the consequences…

I really enjoyed this book, it was a really great read and I loved how it showed you the world at the time through three people's eyes: Minny, Aibleen and Skeeter. The characters in the book are amazing and each had their own incredible personality. I loved how Minny was 'sass-mouthing' and bold but at the same time she was very caring of those people she loved. The Help is brilliant and if you want a book that you can't put down, I would really recommend that you read it!
