What is your biggest guilty green secret?

Keeping a dozen shopping bags in the boot, forgetting to choose one when stopping to do a quick shop at Oddbins, then having to ask for a carrier bag.

Do you know your carbon footprint?

Don't know, but I fly only when I have to now (never for a holiday), drive under 4,000 miles a year and turn lights off like Scrooge.

What was the last nice green thing you did?

Start a kitchen garden and subscribe to Boxfresh Organics for vegetables.

What is your favourite green habit?

Passing things on - books, kids' clothes, toys. Checking where food originates. Ella, my 13-year-old daughter, loves to do this - she won't buy anything that had to travel too far.

If you could buy any green gadget, what would it be?

Well, I already have a wind-up radio, but I am contemplating a beehive.

What wakes you up in a sweat in the middle of the night?

I wake up to have a glass of water and, every time, I think how lucky I am that I can. I'm afraid I also maddeningly tell this to Ella every time she wakes up thirsty in the middle of the night.

What skill do you have for a post-oil world?

I shall say poems in the dark.

What would you save, apart from your family and friends, come the floods?

Ella's two dogs, Lola and Scrumpy. She would never forgive me if I didn't.
