The Finisher by David Baldacci is about a girl named Vega Jane. She lives in a village called Wormwood in a boarding house called The Looms with her brother John, as she isn't old enough to live by herself. Wormwood is surrounded by the Quag, a place filled with dangerous beasts so monstrous that if any "wug" (what the people in this book are called) were to enter it, they would surely die. One day Vega Jane sees Quentin Herms, a co-worker at Stacks (where she works as a finisher), running away from The Counsel and Attack Canines into the Quag. This leads Vega Jane to find a map, which makes her to start to question all the things she has ever been told about life in Wormwood. As she discovers more and more, she makes more and more enemies, and she finds there is much more than she ever thought there could be to Wormwood.
I really enjoyed this book as it was quite gripping and was written well. However, at first I found it quite hard to get into, as it is quite confusing. It uses different words for things that already have words; "wug" instead of person, "session" instead of year, "sliver" instead of minute, "morta" instead of gun, and so on. I would give it 4 out of 5 as it was really good once I got into it, and I enjoyed it. I would recommend it to people aged 13+ as its quite confusing and needs all of your attention to be able to wrap your head around some of the new language.
