Welcome to the first blog of 2014. I hope everyone had a good break and had time to indulge in some reading. Here's a roundup of the books you have been reading, and what you thought of them:
Currently reading Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian. It features some beautifully composed prose, even when featuring brutal scenes of stomach churning violence. It's my first Cormac McCarthy book and I can't wait to read more of his work some time soon.
My re-read this month is 'I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings'. I just picked that up as a way to cleanse my palate from Clarice Lispector's 'Family Ties' which I really got fed up with in the end.
Also, started a couple of new books to review - they're out in Jan and Feb 2014 - one by Rabih Alameddine and the other by Joyce Carol Oates. Couldn't be more different, but really enjoying both.
I have been given an Amazon voucher for Christmas from my dad, which will almost definitely be spent on books.
So far have bought Hunger, the second book in the Gone series by Michael Grant. It is YA, but it is really good.
I also have With Hope In Her Heart, the book about Anne Williams, the driving force of the Hillsborough campaign.
Have just finished Patrick White's Voss - mystical and wise - it is almost Cormac McCarthy or Conrad crossed with Jane Austen - quite a book really!!
If you would like to share a photo of the book you are reading, rather than talking about it in the thread below, please do. Click the blue button on this page to share your image. I'll include some of your snaps in next week's blog.
