Rosamund Pike has signed on to play Amy, a woman who goes missing on her fifth wedding anniversary, in Gone Girl, Gilllian Flynn's adaptation of her novel of the same name. The film, which will be directed by David Fincher, co-stars Ben Affleck as Nick, Amy's husband, who becomes a subject of suspicion after Amy's disappearance.
The Hollywood Reporter, which broke the news, suggests that Olivia Wilde, Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman and Emily Blunt had also been in the running, with other outlets claiming Pike and Jessica Chastain were the final two frontrunners for the role. The rights to Flynn's book were bought by Reese Witherspoon's production company, but the actor is thought to be taking a purely behind the scenes role.
Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry are reportedly being eyed for supporting parts. The film is scheduled to start shooting in September for a 2014 release.
