This book has such a brilliant pace and storyline that you hardly have time to pause before the story takes a drastic turn and you're wondering what comes next; it's electric.
At first the dual narrator confused me, but as soon as I was on top of the switching, it was really interesting to see the different perspectives and it helped you to get a wider knowledge on the mystery which was unfolding. It was also effective because the two narrators have contradicting beliefs at points in the novel. We are unsure who to trust and this made me want to read on even more to find out which belief was right!
One of the principal narrators of the story is Cassie, and I absolutely loved her as a character. I felt her fear, and she didn't have any special skills which suddenly appeared with the invasion, meaning I could relate to her. I felt like I could know her in real life, making the whole context of the story more realistic and frightening. I have been dubious of 'alien invasion' scenarios before because they aren't believable, but this book was great and I'll be waiting in anticipation for the mothership to appear in our skies!
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a thrilling read. I'm always attracted to adventure-type books, so if you love anything which revolves around a journey and is action-packed, this book is for you! However because of the 'mind-games' part of this book, it may not be appropriate for an easy read; it requires thinking.
The next book, titled The Infinite Sea is due to be published in September 2014, and I know I'll be rushing to get my hands on a copy!
