This book seems to be, at first, quite a classical book. It's a bit like The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper but when you get into it you realise that this book is unique.
Simon's little sister is annoying him (don't all little sisters?) and he wishes her away by chanting an old nursery rhyme. He soon finds out that while the rhyme seems normal, it in fact summons the mysterious broken king who whisks his sister away.
He meets a girl who had her brother taken by the broken king as well and together they embark on a quest to try and get their siblings back.
This book is an excellent fantasy read for children aged 9-12. The book is not too challenging but still an excellent read for good readers. A sequel is hopefully coming soon, which is to be waited for eagerly as the ending is a giant cliffhanger.
