Britannia: Great Stories from British History is an immense collection of one hundred fascinating British tales that have tumbled through time, passed down countless generations and eventually found their way to the pages of this engrossing book.

Whilst some of these tales may be mainly myth with as little as a grain of truth in them, many of those described are significant and prominent events in history.

McCaughrean is a fantastic storyteller and her unique style immerses the reader on a journey into Britain's legendary past. Like a Michelin star chef McCaughrean uses her components to perfection: a dusting of humour; a sprinkling of myth and her most important ingredient, some of the most significant historical events spanning three millennia of British history. From 'Gogmagog and the Exiles of Troy' through to Professor Peter Higgs' 'Big Bang Theory'.

But no matter how outstanding the quality of the narrative, the book just wouldn't be complete without Richard Brassey's unique illustrations which bring the narrative to life. Brassey's rich palette of colours dazzles the reader's eyes as they flick through each of its 260 pages.

Britannia-Great Stories from British History will appeal to a wide range of readers from those with a passion for history who enjoy learning about the heroes and villains that make up our notorious past through to those who simply love great storytelling. 5 out of 5 stars.
