The Tail of Emily Windsnap by Liz Kessler – review

Madeline – Roskear Reviewers 'This book is definitely for lovers of mermaids and mystery'

Emily finds out that she is a mermaid in water when she goes to her first ever swimming lesson. Emily soon meets Shona and they begin to piece the past together, realising that somebody has been tricking Emily's mother into forgetting the past and believing that her husband just disappeared. Mr Beeston the lighthouse keeper is somehow involved and is a very sinister character…

My favourite characters are Shona and Emily because they are adventurous characters and they always seem to find trouble and yet are able to wiggle out of it just in time. The character that makes me feel a little uneasy is Emily's dad, because he may have committed a crime and Emily has only just met him so you don't really know about his true personality. The character I really don't like is Neptune because he is spoilt and mean to all the residents of the world below the sea.

It is a very well written book that is easy to read and has plenty of humorous and dramatic parts that you can see clearly in your head, as if someone has put a moving picture in front of your eyes. They make you laugh-out-loud! For example, one of the funny parts is when Mystic Millie tries to hypnotise Emily but ends up hypnotising Emily's mum instead!

I would recommend this book for 7 to 13 year olds because it is an easy story to read, with 2-3 scary parts that aren't too scary. This book is definitely for lovers of mermaids and mystery. It is like a fairy tale based on real life…

I would give this book 5/5 stars. It is a fantastic read, so if you see this book on the shelf buy it. Every time you read it, it will put you on the edge of your seat!
