The strange and beautiful sorrows of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton is a very pretty book. The front cover has been designed well, and I just needed to mention how intercut the design is.

This book is about a girl with wings. It starts off explaining the family history. As you get further on, it turns very tragic and a bit weird. It seams like it is set in the past in America but strange things happen which are not possible, so you have to get your head around that. It also has a meaning in it, which is written on the back saying, 'love makes us such fools'. All the way through her family history, it tells us this.

It starts of with her grandmother moving from France and briefly says about her sibling's deaths, which are very strange. It then goes on to her mother's life and then her own which is spent in her house or garden not interacting with many children. She then grows into a teenager and she faces more struggles there.

This book is very good and well written but I think for anyone under the age of 12 it might be confusing as it sometimes uses more old fashioned language or hints to something that takes a bit of decoding. I would give this book 4 out of 5 as it is a bit slow at the beginning but it gets better as it goes along. It is also a bit confusing and very strange.
