The Sound by Sarah Alderson – review

MissAnonymous07: 'From the beginning secrets unfold and plots are revealed so that you are constantly caught up in the characters' lives and can't put it down'

The Sound is a thriller with a heart-wrenching romance hidden within the pages.

Ren Kingston, a girl from South London, is sent from her messed up life of bad boyfriends and betraying friends to work as a nanny for the summer. Arriving in Nantucket with no previous experience but her own childhood, things could get quite messy.

Ren's dream of being a music journalist and her job as a nanny keep her busy, but she still manages to find herself caught up in a secretive drama involving a serial killer, a bad boy, a book and the sea. With the threat of her own personal stalker her dream of a peaceful summer is the last thing on her mind.

I love the book as it includes some of my favourite themes; romance, danger, a bad boy and music. However this is not your average bad boy cliché. From the beginning secrets unfold and plots are revealed so that you are constantly caught up in the characters' lives and can't put it down. The title's significance is quite clever, because you realise how it fits the story early on but you understand how much as the story continues.

The descriptions are fantastic but aren't so detailed that your mind wanders. The book is easy to understand once you get your head around the characters but from then on it is a thoroughly enjoyable book.

I can't think of any books to compare it to because the plot is unique and it is the perfect blend of mystery, romance and thrilling action. Personally I would rate it five stars and have mentioned it to my friends as a fun, lighter read.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys thrillers or bad boy themed books.
