Afterworlds: The Book of Doom by Barry Hutchison- review

ABitCrazy: 'I would never have guessed how the story all ended in a million years.'

There's panic in Heaven. they have lost the BOOK OF DOOM - the most important object in existence.

When Heaven loses the Book of everything/The book of doom, they start to panic as it's the book of well, everything. It tells you everything that is happening right now, everything that is going to happen, and everything that has already happened. So when they think that Satan has it over in Hell they send a Mortal from Earth to get it back.

They've been watching Zac for sometime so they know he's the right guy to try and get this book back so they kill him. He goes to Heaven they tell him about this book and he agrees they send a Half-Blood Angelo with him to lend a hand.

Zac finds out that Angelo is actually rather annoying. But when they go looking for the book the end up getting just as lost as the book is.
They meet some very strange things along the way, A Valkyrie named Herya, A lot of dead vikings, a guy with two mouths, a guy with eyes instead of nipples and a demon with roller-skates.

I have to say I've been putting off reading this for ages as when I got it, it didn't actually sound like the kind of book I would like and the front cover wasn't very promising either. But I just eventually thought, well it's sitting there I may as well read it! So I did and I was very pleasantly surprised, I actually really enjoyed it!

It's not the kind of thing I like but Barry Hutchison made it very enjoyable, I don't know how but he did. And now I truly believe the "Never-judge-a-book by-it's-cover" saying I really enjoyed it. It's not the kind of book I could read over and over again it's more of the you read it once and then it will always stay as good as it first was.

How the story all unraveled in the end, I thought was brilliant! Really good ending. And not guessable at all for me it might be more obvious for other people but I would never have guessed how the story all ended in a million years. I think if you've got it someone whether it was a gift or a present and you've got it lying around and you don't like the sound of and don't think you will enjoy it definitely give it a go you might be pleasantly surprised. I think one of the reasons I found it so good is because it's nothing like any of the books I read so it was a bit new for me.

I don't know why it says on the back 11+ I mean it might be that younger children wouldn't understand it I don't know I think children from 9+ would enjoy it. I would rate this book 4 and a half stars for a very surprising book that I really enjoyed.
