The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon – review

HorseLover3000: 'I liked this style of writing because it gets straight to the point'

The Curious Incident of The Dog in The Night-Time is a curious book.

Christopher is a teenage boy with aspergers syndrome. He sees the world differently and can't tell lies or jokes. Everything in the book is told as it is, with little description to enhance things. I liked this style of writing because it gets straight to the point and I think it helps the reader to understand what life is like for Christopher and all those like him and the way he thinks.

When Christopher discovers a neighbours dog, Wellington, dead in the garden, he is determined to find out who killed him and why. But his murder mystery story becomes way more complicated than anyone predicted and soon everything begins to spin out of proportion...

On the whole I liked this book. I don't think it is something I would usually read as I usually go for fantasy but I did enjoy it. It made me think a lot and the way it is written really helps you to understand it. I would rate it a 7/10 for being thought provoking and interesting, but not always exciting or intriguing. I would recommend it to children and adults over the age of 12 as I think younger children may struggle to understand the concept.
