This book is a serious case of don't judge a book by its cover, and especially for this book, don't judge a book by its title! I have to say (I know you might think this sounds a bit harsh) that I absolutely loathed the title of this book, I thought it sounded like it would be for seven year olds! But, believe me, this book was nothing I expected it to be.
Ok, it is your typical girly book; a girl's life is falling apart, her Dad's gone, she has to move house, all that sort of thing, but there was something about this book that made me feel connected with the main character, Abbie, and her sisters, Grace and Saff. I found myself halfway through the book with my heart thudding, waiting for the disaster to strike, or, waiting for something incredibly amazing that's going to change Abbie's life.
I'll tell you a bit more about the basic plot of this book: Abbie's Dad has cheated on her mum, his business has fallen apart and now they have no money, literally. Now her Dad's gone, Abbie has to cope living in a grotty flat home to a rat with her sisters, Saff and Grace, and her Mum Kim, after living in a luxury house in Ealing.
But maybe this new life isn't so bad after all . . . On Abbie's first day of school she meets three people who will change her life forever: Summer, Ben, and the handsome, charming Marco. Typically, Abbie makes a complete fool of herself in front of Marco; it's pouring with rain and she doesn't know where she's going, and there Marco is, holding out his blazer to keep her warm. It's only when they're inside that Abbie realizes her bra is completely clear underneath her soaking wet shirt. YIKES!
But as the story progresses, Abbie learns from Summer that Marco isn't all he seems. "He messes around with girls, Abbie," Summer says. Abbie only realizes this once Marco completely ignores her at a gig he invited her to.
But, while all this is going on at school, at home Abbie has a brilliant idea of starting up a beauty spa in the empty shop below their flat with the money her Mum got from selling her engagement ring. All of this planning is helped by Liam, the friendly guy from another flat. Abbie has always loved making her own beauty products, so surely this would be the perfect plan to move her family's life style up a level. As dreams turn to reality at home, all Abbie has time to worry about now is her wobbly friendship with Marco . . .
I don't want to spoil anything, so you're going to have to read it to discover what happens next! But please, please, read this book! Try to forget about the title and just enjoy the blissfulness of this book.
