This is a disturbing and grasping book which lingers with you long after you have finished it.
It is about a girl called Sylvie, who is dying in a hospital in London, and who moves to Stonewylde, a picturesque settlement in Dorset. Sylvie finally thinks her life is complete when she meets Magus, the 'boss' of Stonewylde and he shares with her some of his magic and strength.
Then Sylvie meets Yul, a village boy who isn't on the right side of Magus, or his own father. He suffers terrible injuries and punishments, and Magus always seems to blame things on him even when he hasn't done anything wrong. Sylvie soon sees that there is another side to this man who saved her life, and who is getting increasingly closer to her mother. Can she and Yul stop him?
I would recommend this book for teenagers, because it's got quite a... grown-up plot. I didn't really like the rude aspect of it, and as the book went on I grew to think that Stonewylde was a strange place, where people were separated into two groups, and where weird things went on. But I also saw the side of the beautiful and peaceful Stonewylde, so I think that it was just how it was portrayed in parts of the story.
Overall, I liked Magus of Stonewylde, but I don't think I'd read it again.
