Ten reasons why I love my library

It's not all work and no play in the library - pupil librarian jamesk96 reminds us how libraries can be fun...even at school!

Well, I love my school library, where I've worked as a Pupil Librarian for three years. Here are 10 reasons why I love it!

1. The non-fiction
We have a great selection of non-fiction books, from law to gardening, social science to the second world war. Everything you are looking for - well, we'd like a Roman coins book...

2. The fiction
We also have a super selection of fiction books: horror, action, animal and more! Whatever suits you!

3. The atmosphere
You can sit down and do homework - no distractions! Well, apart from talking to the librarians!

4. DVDs
It's not just books anymore - we have a selection of DVDs, audio books and we even have our own blog: http://libraryatkings.blogspot.co.uk/

5. The challenge

Year 7s get to take part in a Reading Challenge - who can read the most books in a term?

6. The location
We are located in a stunning Tudor building - almost 500 years old! And Isaac Newton studied in the building!

7. The events

We host regular events and challenges: Readathon, author visits, Poetry Day celebrations, study skills lessons...and more!

8. The community
Everyone is kept up to date with what's happening in the library. We post news on our blog and produce a termly newsletter - which even features an article on a new library one of our Pupil Librarian team has visited!

9. The fun!

Who says the library can't be fun? We have Pupil Librarian parties, book club, Warhammer club, bright & colourful displays and even balloons in the library!

10. Come along and enjoy!
And finally, it is important to say, that we believe that the Library doesn't have to be dead silent and strict to be cooperative. We want pupils (and staff!) to feel calm and relaxed in the library. Oh, and our favourite quote:

"Libraries will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no libraries."
― Anne Herbert

Do you love your library? Tell us why! You could write a list or a poem, like Julia Donaldson, draw a picture, write a story or take a photo. Send your contribution to childrens.books@theguardian.com and we'll add them to our Love your library page, celebrating libraries all over the world
