Jasmine Skies is written by Sita Brahmachari. It is the sequel to Artichoke Hearts. I wasn't really drawn in that much when I read Artichoke Hearts, but Jasmine Skies was the opposite - I couldn't put it down (which resulted in me getting told off for reading too much at school when I was in History, Oops!)
Jasmine Skies doesn't directly follow on from Artichoke Hearts, and I think it would do fine as a stand alone novel.
When Mira travels to India to meet the other half of her family, she is 14, two years older than in Artichoke Hearts. She is searching for many answers, and asks many more questions in her time there.
Mira is drawn in by Janu, the adopted family member of her cousin and Auntie. With him, and her cousin Priya, she tours Kolkata and sees things that she will never forget.
As she spends more time in India, everything she was certain of before starts to slip away. As Mira puts it - 'Everything I was before, all the forever things, are slipping away from me here under Jasmine Skies'.
As she struggles to remain loyal to her boyfriend Jide, Mira knows this visit will remain in her heart forever- in more than one way!
This book is entertaining, funny, sad and definitely thought provoking. It has a definite moral to it, and I would recommend it to pretty much anyone. I hope this review makes you pick it up and read it!
