1. The Old Peddlar from Gobbolino by Ursula Williams
Gobbolino is a lovely tale about a witch's kitten who wants to be a kitchen cat. He makes lots of new homes but has to leave, returning to the old witch he belongs to. The scene involving the witch has lots of dark jokes and humorous spells. It's one of my favourite books. 2. The witches from Macbeth by William Shakespeare.
From my point of view the witches are the cause of all the drama in Macbeth. Telling him the prophecies was not a good idea and probably caused all the killing and fighting. At school I did a mock court room trial to see who was most guilty: Macbeth or Lady Macbeth? The witches play a big part in Macbeth just by being witches. 3. Mildred from The Worst Witch by Jill Murphy
Mildred is another of my favourite characters. Lots of humorous things happen when Mildred is around, she is just one of those characters. I love the place where The Worst Witch is set (in a school) because it means you can compare everything that goes wrong with all the better witches' spells that go right. 4. Eve Evergold from The Shadows series by Eva Marie Everson
Eve is my absolute favourite. She is a demon witch which means that she has the power to fight the demons who invade Deepdene! The book is full of suspense and action with lots of scary description. It's one of my favourite books!
5. The wicked witch of the west from The Wizard of Oz by L Frank Baum.
I think she has a great personality which always helps to make a great plot. Jealous about her sister, vengeful for her sister and desperate for the ruby slippers. She plays the biggest part being the bad guy and really makes the story so amazing with her horrid, wicked ways.
