Farmer Clegg’s Night Out by Peter Bently – review

Jennifer and Minnie: 'The toddler was more than happy to make all the farm yard noises (they all go moo...)'

This is a funny, exciting, wild and crazy book about one heck of a night out at the barn. Welcome to tractor factor...

I did judge this book by it's cover and thought it looked a bit cheap and nasty. My husband on the other hand disagrees (what a surprise) and thinks the drawings are amazing... (to me they looked like stills from a cartoon) and there is just so much detail it can be a little bit too much to take in. That aside this book is fantastic!

We really liked the concept of an X-factor style competition out at the barn; they even had a head judge (a bull) called Simon - you can make what you will of who the old goat and over-excited sheep dog are based on. There are even Jedward-style twin sheep thrown into the mix.

We had a blast reading this and the toddler was more than happy to make all the farm yard noises (they all go moo...)

The surprise appearance from a sleep-walking farmer was good and the text flowed at a rhyming fun fast pace.
