PD James is the doyenne of crime fiction - the author of a score of novels and creator of one of the policier's most memorable characters, the lugubrious poet policeman Adam Dalgliesh.

Widowed in 1964, shortly after she made her debut with Cover Her Face, for many years she combined a writing life with work as a civil servant in the Home Office. She was made a life peer in 1991.

To mark the paperback release of her latest book, Death Comes To Pemberley, James will be answering questions posed by Guardian and Observer readers. Her responses will be published in the Observer New Review next month.

Kate Kellaway will be meeting her on 6 June, hopefully armed with your queries.
So now it's over to you – if there are any unsolved mysteries you've ever wanted to know the answer to in the lives of either PD James herself or her characters, now is your chance to solve them.

Post your questions in the comment thread below, tweet them to @GuardianBooks or @ObsNewReview, or email readers.newreview@observer.co.uk
