Pumpkin Grumpkin by Grace Nichols and John Agard – review

AishL: '. . . definitely makes you want to try making up some of your own nonsense poems!'

Pumpkin Grumpkin is a book of silly poems from all around the world. It has a good mixture of poems, some short like the Limericks and some longer. Some of the poems are fun because they rhyme, some have made up words and some are silly because everything is upside down and back to front. Some were a little bit old for me and I didn't really understand them, but I'm only six, so maybe I will enjoy those more when I am a bit older. Most of them were fun to read though and made me laugh.

My favourite poems were The Puffin who lived in a muffin because it rhymes and is funny, On the Ning Nang Nong because it sounds like a very noisy place to be and Seasick because the words are changed to be different fish and it's fun to try and spot them all.

It's a good book because it's funny, makes you think about the words and definitely makes you want to try making up some of your own nonsense poems.
